Garden Grove, CA December 14, 2007Because studies have shown profound health improvements for seniors who exercise both their bodies and minds, Prospect Medical Group has partnered with Nifty after Fifty to open a new concept in senior wellness in Garden Grove.
Located at 11021 Brookhurst Street, the new facility is a joint venture between Prospect Medical Group, one of Orange County's largest physician organizations, and Nifty after Fifty, a fast-growing mature wellness franchise operation with corporate headquarters in Garden Grove. Terms of the joint venture agreement were not disclosed.
The facility is the first to be joint ventured with a local medical group.
"Our philosophy is to improve the overall health and wellbeing of the thousands of members we serve," said Jeanette Cruz, director of marketing, Prospect Medical. "Because we serve a large number of seniors in the community, this investment provides a safe and clinically supervised facility to improve fitness and mental acuity for the mature adult. Our members are very excited about joining the program."
She said that Prospect Members will enjoy a discount in membership dues to the Nifty facility. It is also open to anyone who is not a Prospect member over age 50. "You don't need to be a Prospect member to join the Center," she said. The Center is now open and is accepting new members.
Prospect will hold a series of mature wellness educational classes and seminars at the facility that will be free to community members.
At the first visit, specially trained fitness coaches and physical therapists evaluate the new member's overall level of fitness and specific areas of de-conditioning. They help customize the member's exercise program and monitor their progress at every session, coaching them to a new and better level of vitality. A variety of scientific advances are used such as newly developed air pressure machines that will smoothly build the member's strength and balance; and also, innovative low impact aerobic machines to improve endurance.
Another key service featured at Nifty after Fifty is the state-of-the-art driving simulation program called "Reviving your Driving." Members are able to rekindle their driving reflexes in a safe environment using a computer-based driving simulator called the "Virtual Driver," made by Raydon Corporation. Virtual Driver's interactive Defensive Driving Course is the only one approved by the National Safety Council. It provides numerous practice sessions that include coaching in almost every kind of traffic hazard and weather condition.
"We need to practice in a safe setting to sharpen our reaction-time, build our confidence and rebuild the confidence of others in our driving abilities," said Dr. Sheldon S. Zinberg, the founder of Nifty after Fifty and a long-time physician and managed care executive in Orange County. He said many insurance programs may offer a discount on liability insurance for those that complete the program and who are 55 years of age or older.
Nifty after Fifty also features the "Rewinding your Minding" program that provides a selected series of computer and non-computer based mental exercises designed to rejuvenate the ability to remember and to enhance problem solving.
"As a consequence of the normal aging process, most of us begin to lose our ability to remember at a rate of 1% a year starting in our mid 30s", said Dr. Zinberg, who is also the author of Win In the Second Half a guide to better aging and fitness (Saddleback Press).
Other services offered at the center include physical therapy and rehabilitation and social networking (acquainting and dating services, dance nights, makeover nights, health care lectures, movie nights, book club nights, etc), a med-spa for non-surgical facial rejuvenation and body contouring and a nutritional guidance and weight control program.
There are now three Nifty after Fifty Centers operating in Orange County two in Garden Grove and one in Brea. For more information call 1-800-928-0867 or visit www.prospectmedical.com or www.niftyafterfifty.com.
